Lata started her career in film making in the year 1989 by assisting her father and mentor Dr. S. Krishnaswamy, a Writer-Director of Documentary Films and TV Serials, who received the PADMASHREE Award from the President of India in 2009. In 2005, he received the prestigious LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD conferred by the US International Film & Video Festival, Los Angeles, "for his outstanding contributions to Nonfiction films".
The producer of all her films Dr. Mohana Krishnaswamy, a gold medalist University first rank holder with over 20 Post-Doctoral Research Papers in scientific journals to her credit, Winner of Hari Om Ashram's National Award for Research in Ayurvedic Drugs ; Reputed producer of over 400 fiction and non- fiction short films, Winner of IFUW FIRST PRIZE at Helsinki as director of the best documentary on women's empowerment also happens to be her mother.
Imbibing the creative finesse of her father and the dynamic entrepreneurship of her mother Lata has over the years edited and directed over 200 short films of fictional and non- fictional material.
